Fabre Montmayou “Pretty” Malbec

Fabre Montmayou “Pretty” Malbec

Argentina

2009

Winemaker Notes

Red color with shiny violet tones. Very complex and elegant bouquet. Plenty of wild red fruits like blackberries and cherries, licorice and delicate hints of flowers. On the palate, the wine shows a remarkable balance with very elegant, silky tannins. Drink now through 2017.  Fabre Montmayou’s Gran Reserva is the most “modern” bottling produced at the winery in terms of style, sourced from very ripe grapes and aged in new French oak. From 103 year old vines this dense, lusty bottling is sure to turn heads.

WineChump Notes

Okay.  I had no expectation here.  None whatsoever.  Until I took the first nose of it.  Creme Brulee.  Incredible! Then, the taste and finish.  Exquisite.  I thought it might be giving my favorite Shiraz a run for its money.  This is an incredible Malbec.  Get at least two, because you’ll want to be alone with this on more than one occasion.

“The 2009 Malbec Gran Reserva was sourced from 103 year old vines and aged for 12 months in new French oak.
Smoky oak, game, lavender, black cherry, and blueberry inform the nose of a layered, plush,
flavorful wine with superb volume and length for its modest price. It has enough structure
to evolve for 1-2 years and will provide enjoyment through 2019.”
